Our Identity

We are the fundraising and engagement arm of the National Council of Social Service (NCSS).

Our role and purpose are aligned with NCSS to ensure that every person has the opportunity to live a life of dignity within a caring and inclusive society.

As the hallmark of care and share, we believe in uniting the community to care for the vulnerable. Since 1983, Community Chest has been in partnership with the people, public and private sectors to create a collaborative and impactful social service ecosystem. 100% of funds raised go towards more than 100 social service agencies supported by Community Chest, so that they can focus on developing and delivering quality solutions and continue to empower the lives of the disadvantaged. To date, there are 200 over critical services offered to those in need, including special education, youth programmes, adult disability support, family service centres, eldercare and caregiver support.

Our Five Causes

Your support goes towards empowering the lives of the vulnerable, including our five causes – children with special needs and youth-at-risk, adults with disabilities, families, persons with mental health conditions and lower-income seniors. As our operating and fundraising costs are covered mainly by Tote Board, 100% of your donations go towards those in need.

Guided by the Social Service Sector Strategic Thrusts (4ST) Vision:

“Every person empowered to live with dignity in a caring and inclusive society.”

In line with the 4ST vision, a 5-year roadmap for the sector, Community Chest leads the social service sector by ensuring a caring, collaborative and impactful social service ecosystem, to empower every person to live with dignity in a caring and inclusive society.

In our efforts to engage the community to give, we have different initiatives to encourage sustained community giving (SHARE) for individuals and organisations, as well as educational engagement sessions and material to inspire caring & sharing among the young (Sharity).

  • SHARE: Our regular giving programme for sustained giving. Today, the programme has 220,000 individuals and 2,500 organisations contributing to regular giving for collective impact. Under the SHARE as One (SAO) programme, the government is providing a dollar-for-dollar matching for any additional donations through SHARE, over and above the amount donated in FY2015. In 2021, the SAO programme was extended to FY2023. For more information on the SHARE as One programme, click here.

  • Sharity: In 1984, Community Chest introduced our official mascot, Sharity (his name stems from Share and Charity), to appeal to children for being different, and instill caring and sharing values in future generations. Today, Sharity is used to engage primary school and secondary school students from both special education and mainstream schools via various outreach efforts including Sharity Day, as well as through the Sharity web series on YouTube.
