Community Chest Fú Dài 2020

10 and 11 January 2020

"The Fu Dai initiative has always been a great opportunity for the community-at-large to come together to care and share for those around us. I hope more will join us in the future as we continue to give back to the community, as a community."

- Mr Foo Say Thye, Chairman of Community Chest Fu Dai 2020 Organising Committee

In support of SG cares and in conjunction with the Lunar New Year celebrations, Community Chest Fu Dai 2020 rallied about 1,500 corporate, individual and secondary school student volunteers over two days (10 and 11 January 2020) to pack and deliver over 6,000 festive bags to vulnerable seniors and families.

Named Fu Dai (which means "bags of blessings" in Mandarin), the festive bags contained food and household items to help bring cheer and warmth to families and seniors during the Lunar New Year season.

Co-organised by volunteer group Heartwarmers and Community Chest for the 7th year, this year's Community Chest Fu Dai is themed "Home: For the Community, By The Community", and gathered the volunteering efforts of the public, private and people sectors as well as across generations. On Day 1 of Community Chest Fu Dai, the packing of the festive bags was led by Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth. On Day 2, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Trade and Industry graced the event as Guest of Honour and Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for Social and Family Development led the delivery of the festive bags.

In addition to corporate and individual volunteers, students from Hougang Secondary School and seniors from Montfort Care Goodlife! centres joined in the efforts to pack the festive bags. It was the first time secondary school students were involved in Fu Dai, responding to Community Chest's call out for more youths to volunteer, under the Sharity Volunteer Programme.

Holistic giving and support from corporate partners and donors were instrumental to making this annual volunteering event sustainable. All funds raised through this event will be channelled to about 80 social service agencies supported by Community Chest to empower lives of those around us, including vulnerable seniors and families.
